The Silviculture Strategy web pages house completed silviculture strategies for management units (TFLs/TSAs) throughout BC. Each analysis report contains a summary of the present situation in the management unit, including timber supply, habitat and quality supply issues, and outlines a program of silviculture investments. Each report includes the following:
Basic Data – graphical data regarding the timber harvesting land base such as Land Area, AAC, Current Harvest Forecast, Site Class Profile, Age Class Profile, Tree Species Profile.
Issues – key issues affecting timber supply, from a timber quantity, quality, health and habitat supply perspective.
Silviculture Strategy History – document recent incremental history.
Opportunities to Increase Timber Supply – document such opportunities and supporting rationale.
Potential Treatments and Treatable Area Information – which are the most favourable treatments and/or treatment regimes for the preferred management scenario?
Potential Strategies by Response Time Frame – strategies which may be employed to increase future timber supply during each of the following time frames:
Opportunities to Improve Timber Quality – what are the desired product objectives at the log level?
Potential Treatments – treatments that may achieve the desired product objectives.
Potential Strategies by Response Time Frame – existing strategies are documented here.
Timber Quality Forecast Scenarios – alternative forecasts of future timber quality profiles based on the different silvicultural and investment regimes.
Habitat Supply – specific issues regarding habitat supply and biodiversity within the management unit.
Working Targets – a set of working targets for timber quantity and quality for the preferred management scenario.
Incremental Silviculture Program – a proposal for a program by incremental silviculture activity, by year for 5 years, that will be necessary to achieve the targets and strategies for the preferred management scenario/option.
Job Outcomes, Income and Revenue – what are the immediate and long-term job outcomes of the preferred management scenario/option?
