DKL update April 21, 2008

Impeded Stands
The file review portion of the impeded stands project is now complete!  Over 500 files, representing approximately 16,000 ha were reviewed in early 2008.  As expected, the file review did not yield many FG openings, generally due to the vintage of the data on file.  Many areas are now scheduled for field review in 2008 and it is hoped that this will help to address the ‘impeded’ issues.

The two plantations that were partially destroyed in the fire of 2007 will be spring planted in 2008.  It is hoped that this planting will take place in the early weeks of May.  Perimeter DTA will take place just before planting.

Licensee salvage plans have been finalized and a preliminary survey plan has been made for this area.  Wildfire assessments will be completed sometime during the summer of 2008.

Licensee salvage plans have not been communicated to RAH at this point.  Once these plans have been made, wildfire assessment surveys can take place.  Planting in summer 2009 is anticipated.

Spring planting in Skelly Creek and summer planting in Sanca Creek will complete the planting for this fire area.  This planting contract has been awarded to the Ktunaxa Kinbasket Development Corp, a FN contractor from the East Kootenays.

An overall FFT operational map was created for this area over the winter and is now available.
